Violent clashes break out between England and Russia fans ahead of Euro 2016 match
Ugly clashes have broken out between England and Russian fans ahead of their Euro 2016 match in Marseilles.
Riot police fired tear gas to send the crowds scattering to the side streets as the fighting broke out for the third consecutive night in the Old Port area of the city.
Some fans blamed the police for over reacting after a minor incident outside l’entrecote bar.
And there were reports of a gang of 20 or so Russian fans all clad in black have been hunting the English in horrifying scenes.
Broken glass lay strewn across the square as the police fired tear gas into the crowds causing them to run.
Fans were seen being beaten to the floor and repeatedly kicked in the head.
Police in full riot gear with dogs and batons moved in force against rival fans.
Shocking videos captured many of the clashes on camera.
It comes after a group of England fans were ambushed by French hooligans in the city as they sat enjoying a beer in a picturesque square.
Video footage shows a group of thugs walk past the group of England supporters as they are sitting peacefully at a table enjoying food and drink.
But then one of the mob launches a bottle at the diners followed by a barrage of chairs and tables.
Police arrive and start to throw tears gas as some of the England fans retaliate.
There are now fears the match will be marred by further trouble.
